Today's report is rather short, there isn't a great deal to write about of general interest, and I've only just got back from the opening reception. I got up bright and breezy for the second day of INET 99. Today was to be a course on Accessible Web Sites. I wandered out into San Jose - it was only 8am, but it was nice and warm, and the streets were alive - but in a nice way. I bought myself a copy of the San Jose Mercury, and read it in the fresh air, whist eating a bagel, before going into the session. The session today was on accessible web sites. We spent most of the day looking at ways to make navigation easier, and make pages compatible with text readers, and how to use techniques such as CSS to aid this process. Lunch was a grander affair than yesterday, it started with a nice salad, followed by kidney beans, rice, and a thing that had cheese and some unidentifiable green salady thing inside a donut like coating, followed by raspberry mousse cups. Then into the afternoon, where we continued with the session. Once the session was over, I popped back to the hotel to dump my baggage, and then returned to have a chat with some of the delegates, and investigate the internet connection for use later in the week. At 6pm it was the Opening Reception, so it was an evening of chit-chat, finger foods and drinks. It was due to finish at 8pm, but most people were still talking away come 9 O'clock. Tomorrow morning sees the opening of the conference proper, with the exhibition hall opening at half ten, after yet another opening reception (without food and drink) in the morning. |
