Just a quick note: Don't stay at the Ramses Hilton in Cairo, especially if you want a late checkout.

When I arrived on Sunday I arranged a later checkout - 10pm on Friday, as my flight was after midnight. Simple, it seemed, they arranged it whilst I was there, no problem, just a small additional fee. I could sight see on Friday, then return to the hotel, relax and rest before the flight home. Fat chance.

I went out briefly this afternoon, and at 3pm when I returned 15 minutes later I was locked out my room. The idiots decided that I didn't have a late checkout. I went down to reception and got the key enabled again.

I have a stream of cleaners, mini bar attendants, etc all knocking on the door wanting to service the room - I point out I haven't left yet. Hardly the rest I had planned.

At 4pm they phone me up and demand I check out. I complain. The re-enable my key and apologise.

At 7:50 my dinner arrives.

Just before 8pm they call again demanding I check out NOW! I explain I have a late checkout, they say I have no such thing, I go down and try and get it sorted. I go upstairs, my key is broken again. I go back down get it re-enabled.

I return to my room only to now get another call from reception saying I could now stay till 10pm as arranged and as paid for. This is followed a few minutes later by another call to apologise for the problems. This was followed a few minutes later by another call asking if the dinner was ok - I pointed out I hadn't been able to eat it, as it was now freezing cold from me having to keep going down to reception to sort out their mess.

It's now 20:16 local time, and I haven't been called for 4 minutes. I know there is little point complaining and so on, as it isn't me that will benefit if they do something about it, it's work that will. Me? I just have to suffer, and hope that I never get a Hilton ever again. I'm now stressed and angry and not at all relaxed. So much for relaxing before the flight home.
