I've been dreadful at keeping things up-to-date and posting even semi regularly.

This year, I'm going to change that. Oh, I'm already 5 months late for that resolution...

But this time of year is actually quite an important time for me.

Lots of personal anniversaries seem to come around April. Stuff that probably matters little to most people, but matters a lot to me.

This was when the fun really started. This was the point in my life where I needed to make a big change, and start dealing with all the mental baggage I carried with me every day. 12 years ago was when I stopped being a teacher and started working for an IT firm, and could then start to live my life. If I hadn't took that chance of a 2 year fixed-term contract, I'd never have been in the position I am today. And that's personally and professionally.

This was when my life really started. It was 11 years ago that I actually came out. I started going out and meeting people, I told friends, I told work colleagues. Basically, I'd had enough of not being me, and finally I had the courage and voice to do it.

I'd never have guessed 10 years ago that when I met Nigel that it'd be "the one". To be honest, it was my first "proper" relationship. I'd dated, yes, but this was the first time I really got to know someone properly and not either be dumped quite rapidly or realise it was not going to work. How did I know it was going to work? Absolutely no idea, but it did and still does. I guess you really do just know when it's right. If you have to think too hard about it, maybe that's telling you something?

And 4 years ago we got hitched. Civil partnerships became legal in the UK and we got "civilised" on the 10th anniversary of us meeting.

What will the next big one be? Absolutely no idea. Why April? I suspect it's all to do with the great fun of birthdays falling around then. What happens next? No idea, but I'll enjoy the ride finding out.
