Last night was a fun night. I wasn't expecting it to be, in all honesty, but it was.

We went to the Indianapolis Indians (must have taken days to think of that name) vs Charlotte Knights at their local baseball ground, the Victory Field. You have to have some confidence in your squad to name the field that! There wasn't the largest crowd. The colleagues from America spent a while trying to explain the rules of American Rounders to us, and that was fun. Then the real fun started.... the foolish woman from the local TV station plonked herself next to me and on live TV asked me who out of three players in the first innings(?) was going to score the most runs (possibly). She said the names, I chose one with my expert knowledge of 5 minutes... He failed. But he did manage to score the only run of the evening, so it was a victory of sorts.

Even if Duckman (no 23) was the better player, and failed.

As anyone who knows me knows, there are two common themes that I judge a place on; one is the quality of the Caesar Salad, the second is of the martini. For once, my review is based, at least in part, on the latter.

I arrived in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday evening. I settled in, and prepared myself for a week in Indy. Tonight we went to Dunaways.

The evening started with a fun drive to the restaurant, which involved a tour around the scenic, and not so scenic, parts of the city. The staters were pre-defined which included Crab Cakes, a mushroom based dish and a asparagus dish. All were fantastic. Whilst eating this the drinks order were taken "what would sir like" was the question. A martini was the answer. "We have Bombay Sapphire, Tanquerray..." was the reply. Always a good start! I ordered a Bombay Sapphire martini, and the evening began well. The martini arrived suitably chilled, and with just enough vermouth to taste but without drowing. The main course - fillet mignons - also arrived exsquisestly prepared. The beef was so tender and delicious that the pudding was superfolous, but obligartory. Flourless chocolate cake. Perfect.

The drive back took in the good, and not so good, areas of Indy and I arrived back at the hotel suitably full and happy for a perfect evening with perfect company -- and a perfect martini.

It's been a while since I updated this section, so maybe I ought to start now.

There have been a lot of false dawns. People who were selling at one price, then decided to increase it. Ones with scary inspection reports. Ones where the estate agent just couldn't be bothered to show us round. Oh, and one with the bidding war from the outer reaches of hell.

Finally we agreed on a place, in a little kommune called Billinge. The place is tiny, though it does have it's own rare breed duck and a cheese, so it's not totally uncivilised ;) It's also just 5 minutes away from the Swedish National Forest - the largest broadleaved forest in Northern Europe. Hopefully we'll be moving in on July 10th, only a few weeks away, and hopefully our estate agent in the UK will decide that it's worth sending stuff to solicitors and allow the sale of my house to complete in the UK...

On the downside, we've had to get rid of our girls. I'm really sad about this, as is Nigel, but we can't take them with us, and we'd rather them go to a good home now, than us panic later.

Still loads to sort.

It's now about 2:30am on Tuesday morning in Israel. I'm at my desk in the hotel working for the morning. The reason for this is quite long and I'll try to be as brief as I can. I may expand on it tomorrow.

There are two things I look forward to when travelling away from home. Two things that make the unpleasantness of being away from home and loved ones a bit more bareable. The reason I mention this is that today both are relevant.

The first one is exploring a little in the evening. I'm not one for slumping in the hotel, hitting the bar, and stumbling into bed and waking in the morning bleary eyed and ready for another day the same as the UK, except in a different time zone. No, I like to go and explore the area, go and see places that perhaps you shouldn't, in ways you shouldn't, or do the things that people tell you "you can't do that" or "you shouldn't do that" - the latter always strikes me as more of a challenge, I mean why shouldn't I do that?
