Well, this is it. After 6 years working in a cross Europe, Middle East and Africa role, I’ve just completed my last trip. Rather appropriately my first and last trips were the UAE. It’s natural to think back and reflect on the last 6 years and say the things that sometimes I couldn’t say at the time. Think of this as my Oscar’s for EMEA.
Tips for new travellers
I’ve been working in a job where I travel a lot – far too much – for the last 6 years. After all this time there are things I’ve learnt that I wish someone had told me when I started. Here are my top tips….
Moved to WordPress
Sorry if anyone is struggling to find what they want, but after a few years of battling with Joomla and it getting increasingly unsupportable, I’ve moved to WordPress for the features it has, and the extra bells and whistles that means I hopefully will actually update the website a bit more regularly…
This website will continue to be updated and available, BUT I am no longer accepting emails at the address linked to this website. When it gets to the point where the main address gets betwen 3,000 and 5,000 spams a day, and only a handful or real email, it’s beyond saving.
I have other addresses on the internet, and I’m sure you’ll find me or know one of the other addresses as well. If not, contact me via the website.
Moving on
It’s a very strange time for us at the moment at home.
We’ve been here in Sweden for over 4 years, and during that time we
have had some down moments, but mainly we’ve had a wonderful time
trying to make a success of our little farm in Skåne. I have no regrets
about coming to Sweden in the summer of 2006.
Now, I’m afraid, the end is nigh, and we are shutting down the farm.
This is the beginning of a new chapter for us, and hopefully over
the coming months we’ll be able to share more of our plans for the
future. If you’ve followed us over the years, many thanks, and I hope
that we’ve brought some pleasure to you from our little corner of the
Swedish countryside.
12, 11, 10 and 4 years on
I’ve been dreadful at keeping things up-to-date and posting even semi regularly.
This year, I’m going to change that. Oh, I’m already 5 months late for that resolution…
But this time of year is actually quite an important time for me.
Lots of personal anniversaries seem to come around April. Stuff that probably matters little to most people, but matters a lot to me.
Part 5 – Moving the tools to OSX
I’m in the process of moving the tools to make the slices over to OSX, specifically Snow Leopard.
So far I’ve made the leap with the perl processing tools, but you need to coax them a little to get them working…
Tivo Part 4: Changing from Summertime to Wintertime
I thought I’d probably have to do something manually to sort this out, and sure enough I did…
The summertime to wintertime changeover occured this morning.
To sort out the time, you have two steps.
Making a Swedish TiVo – Part 3
Part 3 is where the magic happens.
First, unless you have access to a Linux/Unix type machine, you probably won't get any further. Either learn linux (nice ask, isn't it?), or find someone friendly who might be able to help you with making the slices. Maybe someone else who has a TiVo in Sweden could help?
Making a Swedish TiVo – Part 2
In Part 1 we went over collecting the tools together, and then gathering the XMLTV data.
In this part we will create the channels and control the Canal Digital set top box.
